لا تعادي شيخ البلد ولا قحبة المدينة

و في رواية من وصاب “لاتعادي قحبة القرية ولا شيخ المحل”
قحبة المدينة تشبيه للشخص سليط اللسان. في اللهجة اليمنية وصف “قحبة” قد يطلق لوصف رجل أو امرأة.
بمعنى لا تعادي شخص ذو سلطة و لا سليط اللسان. لأنه مهما عملت فسوف يغلبانك في حالة كانا أقوى منك. و تذكر دائمًا أنه من الحكمة التفكير في العواقب المحتملة قبل اتخاذ أي إجراء لتقليل الخسائر ما امكن.
Literally: “Do not be hostile to the leader of the country or the whore of the city (metaphor for a sharp-tongued person).”
Equivalent: “Don’t poke the bear.”
